The highly anticipated Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear show from Luar, one of the crown jewels of New York Fashion Week, the clincher of this year’s couture, took place tonight, and as usual, Luar did not disappoint.

Luar is the brainchild of Dominican-American designer Raul Lopez, set out to create gender-fluid clothes, with “influence from the Hasids, the Latin culture, the hip-hop culture, the artist culture” helping to mold the brand into the star that it is today. The brand first came to the world in 2017 (Lopez’s first brand dates back to 2011) and now counts such celebs as Dua Lipa among its fans.

The show features both male and female-presenting models, in looks ranging from the futuristic to the almost corporate. Ubiquitous are the signature Luar hourglass bags that have come to be a hallmark of the brand. Raul Lopez was named accessory designer of the year last year by the CFDA, so it’s only logical that every accessory in the show would be an objet d’art.

This is Luar’s first time closing out NY Fashion Week, and represents a comeback for Lopez, after having endured a series of burnouts in the past couple of years. Sales are up this year 140% over Spring/Summer 2022.

“We are the inspiration. We are the reference. We are the future of the world. And if we stick together, we can tear it out.”

Raul Lopez to Highsnobiety

Queer, Latinx excellence coming out of Brooklyn and hitting the stars. You love to see it. You love to see Luar.
